CVS was founded in 1968 by Isedor Schmidt in the town of Comox B.C. It operated in that location for a few years before moving to our present location in beautiful Campbell River. CVS was the first to operate a shingle machine on the northern part of Vancouver Island. In the early years the company salvaged red cedar blocks from the Sayward Forest District that in the early 1900’s had been devastated by a wild fire that left only the giant cedar trees standing. To this day there are still salvage contractors taking cedar blocks out. In the late 70’s the mill expanded and began buying logs from various logging companies; Macmillian Blodel, Can For, Elk River Timber, to name a few. Most of these companies have now changed hands and now most of our log supply comes from Western Forest Products, Island Timberlands. Both companies are environmentally certified from various auditors. After 40 years our company is still owned and operated by the Schmidt family and one thing that has never changed is our commitment to buying the best raw material in order to make the very best shingle and shake product possible. We are also fortunate to have the most productive and quality conscious employees in the business. |
